Le Bosquet

Situated in one of the most beautiful, historic and exciting corners of northern Lot, ‘le Bosquet’ is an ideal venue for lovers of the countryside and of gastronomy.   Attractively furnished and decorated the cottage provides comfortable accommodation for two people.   Because it has the advantage of gas central heating ‘le Bosquet’ is available all year round.

There is a large dining area with a pretty table and chairs, a Welsh dresser and a bookcase.   Two pairs of French windows lead to the two terraces and to the garden.  The dining area is separated from the kitchen by fitted cupboards with a good work surface.  The kitchen itself has a full size gas cooker (four rings, grill and oven,) a full size refrigerator, a double sink and a microwave oven.  An electric coffee maker and a toaster are also provided.

A small sitting room makes an L shape with the dining area and is furnished with a sofa-bed, coffee table, armchair and map cupboard which is full of information about the area.

The bedroom has a double bed (4 ft. 6ins) two bedside tables and a dressing mirror.  There are very extensive fitted cupboards in the bedroom and also in the sitting room.  An electric pedestal fan is provided.  The pine- panelled shower room also contains the basin and loo .

The cottage seen from the valley garden

The grounds extend for over an acre and consist of rough grass with small copses of trees.  There is very ample parking in front of and beside the cottage.  Please note that a portion of the grounds  (about one third) is steeply sloping.   To the north -west is a lovely view of the Château de Belcastel, perched on a cliff dominating the confluence of the rivers Dordogne and Ouysse.  To the north is a view of the valley of the Dordogne with the Roc des Monges in the distance.  To the east is a rocky ravine   ‘Les Carbonniers’ where sheep graze and occasionally deer or wild cats or even, in the winter ,wild boar can be seen in the distance.  To the south lies the house and garden of the British owners but the house is far enough away to preserve your privacy.

Le Bosquet is situated 1km. south of the village of Lacave on the D247 road to Rocamadour .  Exact details of how to find it plus an alternative route to avoid possible traffic congestion in Souillac will be sent to you when you book.  The large scale Michelin map you will need is No 75.

LOCAL PLACES OF INTEREST

These are too numerous to mention in full, but a few of the closest include Lacave itself with its very famous and beautifully illuminated caves, and easy access to the rivers Dordogne and Ouysse.   Rocamadour is a ‘must’ to see although it is crowded in July and August when the best time to visit is after dark when the floodlighting is spectacular.   20kms away is Martel with its associations with Eleanor of Aquitaine ; a truly beautiful and unspoiled mediaeval market town.  Other pretty villages within easy reach include Carrenac with its fine Abbey and cloister, Collonges les Rouges, a magical huddle of towers and ancient houses built in soft red sandstone, Turenne, a hilltop town whose Dukes and Bishops influenced the whole region in the middle ages and Autoire which has an impressive cascade and a very precarious ‘Château des Anglaises’.   On a larger scale the towns of Figeac
